A late-season influenza outbreak has sparked public health warnings in the Wellington region.

Regional Public Health is warning GPs, parents and schools to watch out for flu symptoms after an outbreak of influenza strains A and B this week.

A Hutt Valley intermediate school and a childcare centre in central Wellington have both been struck by the flu, with high numbers of children off sick.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Annette Nesdale said more than 25 per cent of the children enrolled at both the school and the childcare centre had been absent this week...
