Auckland Regional Public Health Service investigates a Hepatitis A cluster

Auckland Regional Public Health Service is currently investigating a cluster of Hepatitis A cases within the region. As of 09.00am this morning there have been 19 confirmed cases.

As this outbreak does involve school aged children we have been working closely with the schools providing public health advice for staff and parents, we will continue working with them as the situation evolves...

Auckland health officials are scrambling to find the source of a Hepatitis A outbreak which has affected 31 children and teenagers.

The number of cases identified has risen since Friday, when officials had confirmed 19 cases of the illness in people aged between one and 19.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service is working with staff and parents at nine affected schools to assess the risk of the outbreak and provide advice.

Medical officer of health Dr Shanika Perera says the most likely source of the illness is infection from people travelling overseas.

However, health officials are still working to identify the source...

Auckland outbreak of hepatitis A slows

The outbreak of hepatitis A affecting nine Auckland schools has stabilised, but is not yet over, says the region's public health service.

By yesterday, 30 cases - including probable and confirmed cases - had been reported. There have been no new ones since last Wednesday...
