Measles alert for Singapore flight passengers

Travellers who arrived at Auckland International Airport on Air New Zealand flight NZ281 from Singapore at midnight on January 25 may have been exposed to measles, says the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS).

The passengers closest to the six-year-old boy were seated in rows 34 to 49.

Medical Officer of Health Dr David Sinclair says the boy was infectious while on the flight.

"It could be another five days before symptoms appear in other passengers but if anyone seated in those rows knows they don?t have immunity to measles they can be vaccinated, and that could prevent the symptoms developing," he says.

He says any passengers on that flight who start to feel unwell should telephone their doctor or call Healthline on 0800 611-116 for advice...

Measles outbreak confirmed in Palmerston North

Seven cases of measles have been confirmed at a tertiary institution in Palmerston North.

MidCentral District Health Board said it was working with the Institute of the Pacific United to trace where the outbreak started.

The institute cancelled classes for two weeks as a result of the outbreak...

A measles outbreak in Palmerston North likely came from overseas, a public health official says.

Six cases have been confirmed at the Institute of the Pacific United New Zealand campus since February 4, cancelling classes until February 20.

In the past week, one person had been hospitalised, then discharged, medical officer of health Dr Rob Weir said. No new cases had been discovered by MidCentral DHB.

"It is not known where the outbreak originated from. Measles is not endemic to New Zealand, so the infection will most likely have originated from overseas at some point," he said...

New measles case has been confirmed in Auckland

A new case of the measles has been confirmed in Auckland, with the infected person having visited several public places before they were diagnosed.

The incident has prompted heath experts to urge people who may have come in contact with the disease to watch out for symptoms.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service said people who visited Auckland airport and two Pak 'n Save stores on Auckland's North Shore last week and were unsure of their immune status should call their doctor's practice to check.

Medical Officer of Health Michael Hale said the infected person visited Auckland airport's international check-in area on the ground floor and the public pre-departure area on the first floor, between 5.45pm and 6.45pm on Saturday, March 18, as well as the Silverdale Pak 'n Save, between 7.30pm and 8pm on that day.

They also visited Albany Pak 'n Save, between 11am and midday on Sunday, March 19.

Hale said if anyone had been infected at those locations, they may start to develop symptoms from March 28 to April 2...

?Highly infectious? case of measles confirmed in Wellington

Regional Public Health (RPH), Wellington has been notified of a confirmed case of measles and is asking people who may have been in contact with that person to watch out for symptoms. The infected person visited several public places before they were diagnosed.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Annette Nesdale is asking members of the public who visited the following locations at the relevant times, and who are unsure if they are immunised against measles, to call their doctor?s practice and check.

Wednesday 24th May between 4.45PM and 6:15PM at Ropata Pharmacy, High Street, Lower Hutt.

Sunday 21st May to Wednesday 24th May during work hours at Capital City Motors, Taranaki Street, Wellington.

Saturday 20th May between 3.00PM and 5.30PM at the Wainuiomata Soccer Clubrooms at Richard Prouse Park, Hine Road, Wainuiomata...
