NEW PALTZ — The Mohonk Mountain House will shut down for one week while experts work to eradicate a virus outbreak that has sickened hundreds of guests and employees in the past week.

The resort will close at 1 p.m. Friday, and expects to reopen to guests on Feb. 14, said Nina Smiley, the director of marketing.

"Almost all of the guests have checked out," Smiley said Thursday evening. "We're just waiting for the last few to leave."

The state Department of Health is working to identify the bug, which Smiley described as an "aggressive stomach virus."

Will Return To Normal.....

Will Return To Normal.....

We have been guests for Many Decades at Mohonk Mountain House and never experienced or heard of an incident like this happening.

I know on a travel forum, many past guests are shocked at this occurrence.

We all know that the administration of Mohonk Mountain House are and will do the right thing to return the Mountain House clean and back to operation.

It was unfortunate that this happened to this extend for the first time.

It truly is a very lovely place to stay and experience.

Mohonk Longtime Guest,
Ed S.
