Some areas of New York State are currently experiencing a measles outbreak, including the lower Hudson Valley and parts of New York City.
Measles spreads easily and can be dangerous to anyone who is not vaccinated. If you have questions about measles or the measles vaccine, call the New York State Measles Hotline at 888-364-4837.
As of August 12, 2019, there are 385 confirmed cases of measles in New York State outside of New York City (290 in Rockland County, 55 in Orange County, 18 in Westchester County, 14 in Sullivan County, 6 in Wyoming County, 1 in Suffolk County and 1 in Greene County.)

[h=2]Recent Outbreak in Brooklyn and Queens[/h] As of August 12, 2019, there have been 653 confirmed cases in NYC since September 2018.
[h=3]Vaccination Requirement in Brooklyn[/h] On April 9, the Health Commissioner ordered every adult and child who lives, works or resides in the following ZIP codes and has not received the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to be vaccinated:

• 11205
• 11206
• 11211
• 11249

On April 17, the Board of Health voted unanimously to adopt a resolution supporting the Commissioner's order and the vaccination requirement.
As of August 12, 33,234 doses of the MMR vaccine have been administered to people who are under 19 years old in Williamsburg and Borough Park since October.
People who demonstrate they are immune from measles or have a medical condition that prevents them from receiving the vaccine will not need to get vaccinated.
If the Health Department identifies a person with measles or an unvaccinated child exposed to measles in one of the above ZIP codes, that individual or their parent or guardian could be fined $1,000.

Measles: Rockland updates totals after confirming earlier cases

Rockland County added 16 more cases of measles to its full tally since an outbreak of the virus began. But, county officials said, these aren't new cases. Rather, they were illnesses detected earlier and only recently confirmed as measles.

The county has documented a total of 312 measles cases since the outbreak began in October.

On Aug. 20, the total was 296. But none of the newly documented cases included current measles cases,Rockland officials said.

"These are historic cases," said Rockland County spokesman John Lyon. "Just to bring everyone up-to-date on the full extent of the outbreak."

The 16 documented cases occurred between early February and mid-May, Lyon said. Blood tests collected months after the illness confirmed measles. "This is just another example of the diligence of the team at (the Rockland County Health department) and shows the level of detail they look for when investigating cases," Lyon said Tuesday...

New York City?s biggest measles outbreak in nearly 30 years, which predominantly sickened ultra-Orthodox Jewish residents of Williamsburg and Borough Park, has ended.

According to Health Department officials, 42 days, or two consecutive incubation periods for the highly contagious virus have passed, allowing the city to declare itself measles-free. The last recorded infection was in mid-July. An emergency order in place since April that required measles vaccination for all people who lived, worked or attended school in four Brooklyn zip codes has been lifted.

?There may no longer be local transmission of measles in New York City, but the threat remains given other outbreaks in the U.S. and around the world,? Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot said at a press conference on Tuesday. ?Our best defense against renewed transmission is having a well-immunized city.?...

LIBERTY, NY ? As the summer winds down, so do the clinics for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations in Sullivan County. The county?s Public Health Services reminds the public that measles continues to be a concern.

Sullivan County has had 15 confirmed cases this summer, and four additional epidemiology-linked cases, bringing the total to 19 cases so far in the county this year. None of these cases are currently contagious. However, health care providers and public-health officials in Sullivan County continue to be vigilant at screening and monitoring for cases of measles in individuals. Symptoms include a rash, high fever, cough and conjunctivitis (watery eyes).

The measles outbreak is not yet considered over in New York State. As of August 28, there were 414 confirmed cases of measles in the state, outside of New York City (312 in Rockland County, 57 in Orange County, 18 in Westchester County, 19 in Sullivan County, six in Wyoming County, one in Suffolk County and one in Greene County.)...

CARMEL, NY— The Putnam County Department of Health has confirmed a case of measles.

Several possible exposure sites have been identified: the Route 52 Laundromat, the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God church, and following the service, at the Annual Feast Day Celebration, and also at the Putnam Hospital Center Emergency Department.

Call the health department as soon as possible if you:

Were in the laundromat at 184 Route 52 in Carmel on Saturday, Sept. 21, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. who develops symptoms before Saturday, Oct. 12.
Attended church service at the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God at 1050 Route 6 in Mahopac on Sunday, Sept. 22, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., or the celebration afterwards from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and develops symptoms before Sunday, Oct. 13.
Visited the Putnam Hospital Center Emergency Department at 670 Stoneleigh Ave in Carmel on Saturday, Sept. 28, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. who has not been contacted by the PDCOH.

"Before this person was isolated, there may have been additional exposures," Health Commissioner Michael J. Nesheiwat, MD, said in the announcement...

NEW CITY – Days after Rockland County officials declare the year-old measles outbreak was over, they announced on Wednesday that an international traveler has been confirmed with measles.

That individual visited Congregation Khal Torath Viznitz in Monsey, potentially exposing others to measles from September 20-21.

Anyone who visited the congregation at 25 Phyllis Terrace in Monsey during specific time periods may have been exposed to measles: Friday, September 20 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., with risk of exposure until 12 a.m.; and Saturday, September 21 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., with a risk of exposure until 3 p.m...
