Nursing college shuttered as flu spreads
ALOR SETAR: The Alor Setar Nursing College, located on the grounds of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here, has been closed for a week after some of its trainees showed influenza A (H1N1) symptoms.
Kedah Health Department director Datuk Dr Hasnah Ismail said the college has been closed since Wednesday after 24 of the 480 trainees came down with high fever, cough and sore throat.
She said all were now under quarantine at the college.
Dr Hasnah said the department would make sure that once the college re-opened on Aug 5, only healthy trainees would be allowed to attend training sessions in hospitals.
She also said the department was now sending its personnel to colleges, training centres with hostel facilities and other tertiary institutions to check for A (H1N1) infections.
?Instead of people coming to see us for check-ups, we will go to them.?
She said the department would also brief factory owners on precautionary measures they should take to stop the spread of the virus.
She said they must be on the alert for infections, especially when there is a large number of absentees.
