Nunavik health officials have confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 in the region.

The Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services says that two people in Inukjuak tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Both are now in isolation, and any people they may have been in contact with have been asked to self-isolate as well.

“Public Health continues to monitor the situation and will advise if any additional measures have to be put in place,” the health board said.

Inukjuak has seen two other isolated cases of COVID-19 this year: one in April and another in September.

There is one other individual with an active case in the region, in Kuujjuaq. Overall, Nunavik has seen a total of 31 cases of the virus; excluding the three current cases, all the individuals affected have since recovered...

Nunavut is to start lifting a two-week lockdown on Wednesday as more people infected with COVID-19 recover.

The lockdown that shuttered all schools and non-essential businesses was put in place on Nov. 18 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus that first appeared in the territory early this month.

Dr. Michael Patterson, the territory’s chief public health officer, said Monday that 73 people had recovered from COVID-19 and 108 cases remained active. There were also four new cases, bringing Nunavut’s total to 181.

No one who contracted COVID-19 in Nunavut has been hospitalized. Patterson said that’s partly because more than half of the infections have been in residents under the age of 40...

The impending arrival of a COVID-19 vaccine doesn’t mean Nunavummiut can relax and let their guards down in the fight against the potentially fatal coronavirus, Dr. Michael Patterson, the chief public health officer, says.

Nunavut’s Health Department reported only one new case of COVID-19 Thursday. Counting recoveries, there are now 37 active cases in Nunavut, all in hard-hit Arviat.
