No swine flu in Serbia

BELGRADE -- Health Minister Tomica Milosavljević says that there have been no registered cases of swine flu in Serbia yet.

An analysis, which was confirmed by the World Health Organization, had dispelled any doubt that a girl in Pri?tina might have died of swine flu, Milosavljević told a press conference at the government HQ today.

Serbia had stockpiles of anti-viral medicine that would be distributed if need be, he said, stating that the medicine would not, however, be able to stop a pandemic.

Milosavljević denied claims by some media outlets that all the stockpiled anti-viral medicine had passed it use-by date.

He said that a particular challenge for Serbia would be the World Student Games from July 1-12, which will be attended by some 20,000 people from all over the world.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon warned that Serbia and the entire region were at risk from the swine flu virus.

Milosavljević and Kon reiterated that Serbia had taken all necessary measures and formed a body to deal with any potential outbreak of the flu strain.

BELGRADE -- Officials in Pri?tina say that a woman who was suspected to have died of the new, or swine flu, in fact succumbed to pneumonia.

Of the three swine flu tests, two came back negative, while the third was sent for analysis abroad, "but it is expected that this result too will be negative", it was announced.

The victim ? who a week ago came to Kosovo from Switzerland ? was admitted to hospital last night, suffering from heart and lung problems, which, it was stated, "are characteristic of the new flu".
