Alhaji Shehu Tureta, the Sokoto State Coordinator of the Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, said that 68 cases of leprosy were recorded in the state between January and March.

Tureta disclosed this in Sokoto on Monday at a one-day training workshop for journalists organised by the Leprosy Mission Nigeria in collaboration with the Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme in the state.

He said that the figure had, however, dropped significantly from 19,548 cases in 1992 to 68 this year .

He attributed the drop to the introduction of the use of the multiple drugs therapy deployed in 1993...
