In order to boost the existing capacity of the Central Medical Stores, the FCT Administration (FCTA) has approved the sum of N10 million for the scheme.
FCT Secretary for Health and Human Services Secretariat, Engr. Waziri Ahmadu, who disclosed this at a post exco briefing yesterday, said that the Central Medical Store would be a limited liability company. The Secretary said a Rapid Response Team would be formed to curtail the spread of Avian Flu and appealed to residents to give a helping hand so that the area councils can make their Rapid Response Team functional.

Engr. Ahmadu said the Secretariat is trying to curtail the spread as well as bird to human transmission, and aim to organise workshop to inform and enlighten FCT residents on the actions taken to curtail the outbreak. He said committees have been set up at Area Council level so that the Secretariats can check on ways to curb spread of the disease, especially through aggressive enlightenment of the public on Avian Flu outbreak.
"At present, there is no threat of influenza activity in the country, we are making efforts to curtail it in the future, we want to ensure that it does not cross from bird to human beings," the Secretary said.
