Nigeria - 3 new suspected ebola cases: 2 in Lagos, 1 in in Kaduna - all 3 test NEGATIVE

Re: Nigeria - 3 new suspected ebola cases: 2 in Lagos, 1 in in Kaduna - all 3 test NEGATIVE

Jim - it is also worth remembering that a) in Nigeria (and the rest of the world) the economy is everything and b) an election is coming, and many different power players in government will be exerting opposing influences on communications for different reasons. Many may not believe the threat is real here too.

There is also the valid issue of panic in a population like this, and in such circumstances I am inclined to continue watching what is done, as well as what is said, as the two may not always add up.

Hopefully swift action has got this under control here, but if not (and its all hyperbole) we will find out soon enough, as a larger outbreak cannot be buried from the media for too long, but, it can take some months to become clearly visible.

I certainly hope they have it under control, and all is as we are being told.

Vibrant - I agree and don't have a problem with them keeping information under control, because you are right, panic in a city like Lagos could be disastrous. I sincerely hope that whatever the situation, they have been and will be able to manage it to prevent a major outbreak. What would concern me is if information was being withheld such that an outbreak would be made worse or because it is already out of control and they don't want to admit it. However, I do not believe either of these are happening in Nigeria. I still hold out hope that there is a real chance of containing ebola in Nigeria.

In my opinion the outbreak in Nigeria is just getting started. It's happening slower than in the other affected countries but has the potential to become far worse. It might be a good idea for the outside world to pay particular attention to this outbreak.

I stand by my earlier post.
