Nicaragua to protect risk groups against influenza A (H1N1)
Health authorities in Nicaragua provide some 250,000 people vaccinated against influenza A (H1N1) by the end of the year, said on 4 Health Minister Guillermo Gonzalez.
The official said the government decided to give priority to persons in risk groups, ie, diabetics, pregnant, obese and chronically ill, among others.
He said the government of his country intends to launch a massive campaign of vaccination against human influenza later this year once they enter the Central American country vaccine lot designated by the World Health Organization (WHO).
"Our plans are to have ready before the end of years of health personnel to participate in the vaccination of at least five per cent of the total population, which means a universe of 250,000 people," said the official.
Minister Gonzalez confirmed that so far a total of 2149 people have been infected with influenza virus A (H1N1), 2,146 were discharged, three are under medical surveillance. Eleven people have died in the country by infection with influenza A (H1N1). (Xinhua)
