It's official: Flu season has started in the Granite State.

The state Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the state's first case of influenza yesterday in an adult in Hillsborough County.

This is just the beginning.

While H1N1 changed everything and the flu season was at its peak at this time in 2009, this year promises to be more typical in terms of timing, according to Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, state epidemiologist.

"I think last year was unusual. What we're seeing this year is the usual pattern," Alroy-Preis said yesterday. "I think we are back to the usual pattern of flu."
