Two Onondaga County children sick with virus sweeping through Midwest

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Two young children in Onondaga County have enterovirus D68, the same respiratory virus that has been sickening hundreds of children in the Midwest.

Dr. Quoc Nguyen, the Onondaga County Health Department's medical director, said both children were hospitalized. One child has been released and the other is still hospitalized.

The county health department is working closely with the state Health Department to monitor the current EV- D68 situation locally...

School officials: Yonkers student diagnosed with children's respiratory virus

NEW YORK ? Yonkers school officials say an elementary school student has been diagnosed with a sometime severe respiratory virus affecting hundreds of children around the country.

Spokeswoman Jerilynne Fierstein tells the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1tHFV3g ) that the district learned over the weekend that a Cedar Place Elementary School child had been diagnosed with enterovirus D68.

She says the school has been sanitized. She had no information about the student's condition...
