Pachuca, Hidalgo .- From the 25th of this month when it enters into force the law that prohibits pharmacies selling antibiotics without prescription, the Health Ministry will launch a special program of monitoring and verification in the two thousand nine hundred pharmacies that exist in Hidalgo.:applause:

Given the complication of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, the Health Ministry found that only under medical supervision and control this type of product sold.

The health minister in Hidalgo, Jorge Islands, Mexico stated that there is a high percentage of antibiotic resistance, which affects more than half of the population.
It is estimated, said that between 43 and 59 percent of prescription drugs sold without this care. And what is even worse, that 8 out of 10 recommendations issued the pharmacy employees are inadequate.

"The antibiotics treat or prevent infections caused by bacteria, however, overuse of these drugs, after a while lose effectiveness in the body. Promotes bacterial resistance and the patient is not cured, by contrast, suffers serious complications .

He stressed that antibiotics must be prescribed after evaluation of the physician, as not all have the same effect in the body.

"With good intentions, family or friends tell us to what they or their children taken, and what will work, but conditions are not the same, so the importance of physician supervision."

Islands stressed that the antibiotic can modify the clinical picture. He gave as an example the possibility of masking appendicitis, delaying the diagnosis and encourage complications. Another example would be patients who became ill with influenza A/H1N1, taking antibiotics without medical supervision and were complicated cases.

LA LEY GENERAL DE SALUD

According to the draft guidelines and for purposes of the provisions of Articles 226 and 227 Section IV of the General Health Law, the sale and dispensing of antibiotics should be conducted solely and exclusively to the display of the corresponding medical prescription.

Prescriptions must be prepared in accordance with the provisions of Articles 31 and 32 of the Regulation of Health Supplies, which state:

I. - In the case of generic drugs must list the generic name and if desired, may indicate the distinctive name of your choice;

II .- In the other cases may express the distinctive name or jointly generic names and distinctive,

III .- The limitation period for public institutions that comply with each of them be brought, that must be used in all cases only generic names of antibiotics included in the basic inputs to the first level of care or input catalog for the second and third level. As an exception, and with the authorization, as appropriate, other antibiotics may be prescribed.

This matter should be noted that other provisions.

In order to guarantee the provisions above, any establishment that sells at retail or dispense antibiotics, it must:

I. - To keep a register in which to settle any and all acquisitions and sales or dispensing of antibiotics

II. - In record acquisition settle the date of acquisition, the distinctive name of antibiotic in question, the presentation, the lot number to which it belongs, the quantity purchased and the expiration date;

III .- The registration of sale or delivery to the consumer, settle the date of sale, supply or disposal of the antibiotic, the distinctive name of the antibiotic in question, the presentation, the lot to which it belongs, the amount sold, dispensed and / or discarded, and the name of the prescriber's prescription, professional license number and address;

IV .- Each time you take the antibiotic, the recipe must be sealed therein indicating the quantity sold and the date of sale. Exhausted when the amount of antibiotic prescribed, the prescription must be retained by the establishment and

V. - The recipe should be supplied only within the duration of treatment indicated as mandated by Article 30 of the Regulation of Health Supplies.

The monitoring of this Agreement is made by the COFEPRIS in coordination with the health authorities of the states and within the scope of their powers.
