Child Dies, Hundreds Sickened As NJ Flu Cases Skyrocket
Health officials say the flu has sickened hundreds of NJ residents in its most recent count, and a child has died.

NEW JERSEY — Hundreds of New Jerseyans have fallen ill with the flu – and one child has died –as cases have soared statewide in recent weeks, state health officials say. New Jersey's flu scare has been declared "widespread" since the number of positive test cases doubled in one week.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared New Jersey's flu activity is "widespread" as the state has seen its positive sample flu cases increase from 268 during the week that ended on Dec. 14 to 438 during the week that ended on Dec. 21, according to state Department of Health statistics.
