NEW DELHI: As many as 26 children suffering from diphtheria - an upper respiratory tract bacterial infection with high mortality rate - have been admitted to Delhi's Maharishi Valmiki Infectious Disease hospital. Diphtheria is covered under the government of India's universal immunization programme and health experts say the sudden outbreak of the disease is reflective of poor coverage.
