Two new confirmed cases of swine influenza in New Caledonia
NOUMEA - Two new confirmed cases of swine influenza have been recorded in New Caledonia, bringing to four the total number of patients, reported Monday the health authorities.
Three suspected cases are also under investigation.
The archipelago, located just 1,500 km from Australia, one of the most affected countries in the world, has identified its first two cases Friday.
During the weekend, two other people reported the illness, "said Jean-Paul Grangeon, head of health actions to DASS.
All patients younger than 30 years, returned from a stay in Australia and have been placed in solitary confinement at the Center Raoul Follereau Noumea. Given the health capacity of the territory, including the hospital in Noumea and saturated age, the authorities want to avoid peak epidemic.
"Our strategy is to succeed in limiting the spread of the disease, crushing the epidemic not to be overwhelmed by a peak," said Grangeon.
