He arrived at Schiphol airport saturday afternoon and travelled on to Dordrecht, near Rotterdam. There he went to see a doctor in the Albert Schweitzer hospital and fell ill.

Later that saturday night, at 02:20 he was transported to the Erasmus hospital where he is kept in isolation.

Re: Netherlands - Man from Sierra Leone in isolation at Rotterdam - 1st ebola test is negative, further testing to follow

According to a press release of Erasmus Medical Centre the protocol says: 2 labs should test to get a confirmed result. Also the results of the test cannot be conclusive if you test very earlyf afte onset of symptoms.

The first 2 tests (in the Netherlands and Germany) were negative. The first test was a day after the start of symptoms. It can be to early to find the virus.

A 2nd test (also run in 2 labs, Netherlands and Germany) is necessary in this case to rule out Ebola.

Results are expected in a few days.

Patient not infected with Ebola

oct 6 2014

The first negative tests were confirmed by the second round of testing: negative for Ebola. The patient has malaria.

Press release Erasmus Medical Centre
