Weekly COVID-19 update: 9 - 15 Sept 2020

8,265 new COVID-19 infections were reported over the past week. During the past week, the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs) reported hospital admissions (current or previous) due to COVID-19 for 92 patients. 27 deaths of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients were reported this week. See news item: Number and percentage of positive tests are increasing.

Over 195,545 people have been tested in the GGD test lanes in the past week, compared to 180,182 people in the week before. At the national level, the percentage of positive tests increased this week, rising from 2.8% in the previous week to 3.9% this week. The reproduction number has risen to 1.38. This means that 100 people who are infected with the novel coronavirus will collectively infect another 138 people.

Not all of the confirmed cases, hospital admissions or deaths that were reported during the past week also occurred within the last week. Some patients are reported later. For this reason, the figures are often supplemented with previous reports that had not yet been included. Since there is a significant chance that not all people who have COVID-19 will get tested, the actual numbers in the Netherlands are probably higher than the numbers stated here.

Measurements of virus particles in sewage water

Usually this is a prediction of the number of cases a week later. If this is correct, it doesn't look good.

A different approach compared to the previous one

Lines show avarage/day last 7 days

Blue line : hospitalisations; R = 1.0 seem to peak; now 730 beds needed - 1100 beds in about 2 weeks

Orange line: ICU admissions; R = 0.8 seems to have peaked; now 180 ICU beds needed - 220 in about 2 weeks

Grey line: fatalities; R = 1,5 seems to grow; now 34 growing to 110 in 2 weeks
