PARIS (Reuters) - Nepal has reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus on a poultry farm, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Bird flu cases have been confirmed at two locations of Morang in Province 1. According to the Department of Livestock Services, the detection of avian influenza (H5N1 virus) has been confirmed at Khuniyakatta of Gramthan-1 and Budhiganga-5 through laboratory tests.

The Department’s Officiating Director General Lekhraj Dahal said the lab samples collected from local farms tested positive for bird flu on January 30. The test was conducted at the Central Veterinary Laboratory, Tripureshwar through real-time PCR tests...

Another case of bird flu, also known as H5N1, is reported in Chitwan.

The virus H5N1 was detected in the chicken from Anita Livestock Agriculture Farm at Rapti Municipality-6 in the district.

According to Chief District Officer Ashman Tamang, the samples were collected from the farm and sent to Kathmandu on February 8. The results received on February 10 confirmed the infection in the chicken here.

The concerned authority has been inspecting the farm and its surrounding. Birds and chickens within 100 metres of the firm will be destroyed to prevent the possible transmission of the infection...

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Bird flu has been detected at two locations across the country, according to the Department of Livestock Services (DoLS).

The DoLS said avian influenza (H5N1) was detected in samples taken from Baluwakhani of Gokerneshwar Municipality-3, Kathmandu and Rapti Municipality-6 of Chitwan. KARNALI, June 24: Some 1,300 turkeys have been destroyed after bird flu was detected in a turkey farm of Tatopani in Birendranagar Municipality-3, Surkhet.

A test conducted at the Central Livestock Investigation Laboratory confirmed the bird flu in turkey. A sample was sent to the laboratory after 100 turkeys died in the farm, according to Prachanda Khadka, chief of the Livestock Development Directorate.

With this, an emergency meeting of the District Administration Office in Surkhet decided to cull the fowls- turkey, broiler and local chickens in the areas within 500 meters of the farm...
