Aug 11, 2016- More than 50 people cases of Scrub typhus, a bacterial disease caused by intracellular parasite Orientia tsutsugamushi, were reported in Chitwan in the last four months.
Dr Dayaram Lamsal at Chitwan Medical College said the disease?first identified in the 1930s in Japan?was not considered common in the country until recently.
The disease was found among people from Chitwan, Nawalparasi and other neighbouring districts...

Two die of scrub typhus, 76 others infected

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Two children have died of scrub typhus that has been spreading in various districts since the beginning of this year. Another 76 have been infected.
Officials at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) of the Department of Health Services (DoHS) informed that two children -- one 15 months old and the other six years -- died in the course of treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS).
Dr Gunanidhi Sharma, chief of epidemiology section at EDCD, said that eight people died of the disease last year.

Ratnagar (Chitwan), Aug 15: A woman has died of scrub typhus today, the Chitwan District Public Health Office said. The woman was receiving treatment at the Chitwan Medical College when she died.
With this, the death toll due to the disease that has been spreading especially in the eastern region has reached three. Likewise, the total 76 have been infected, said Chief of the Chitwan District Epidemiology Section under the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Dr Guna Nidhi Sharma. He added that the disease has been detected in 20 districts and Chitwan has the highest infected rate.

Scrub typhus cases on the rise in Kailali
Four deaths in as many months this year

Nov 20, 2016- At least four people have died of scrub typhus in Kailali district in the last four months. The disease claimed two lives in the district last year, according to data provided by the District Public Health Office (DPHO).
The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division records showed that of 675 people infected with the scrub typhus, 14 have died across the country in the past four months. The death toll from the disease last year across the country was 8. At least 101 people were found to have been infected with the disease last year.
In Kailali, at least 113 cases of scrub typhus have been reported in the last four months. Last year 58 people were diagnosed with the disease, according to the DPHO).
The disease has also claimed lives in Chitwan, Sankhuwasabha, Tanahun and Bhojpur among other districts this year...
