Individuals should:
  • Check your immunization records. Measles vaccinations are often listed in your records as “MMR” (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). If born on or after 1970, you need 2 documented doses of vaccine to be considered immune (unless previously infected).
  • Contact Public Health at 506-432-2003 if you have not had a measles-containing vaccine.
  • Monitor for symptoms. Symptoms of measles may include fever, cough, sore and/or red eyes, runny nose, or tiny white spots in the mouth. After 3 to 5 days a rash may appear, typically starting on the face and spreading to the rest of the body, including the arms and legs. Symptoms develop within three weeks of exposure.
  • If you develop symptoms, do NOT go to the emergency department, clinic, work, or school. Instead, self-isolate from others in your household and contact Telecare at 811 for further guidance.

Measles outbreak in Sussex, N.B., now over: Public Health

Published: September 04, 2025 at 11:39AM EDT

The measles outbreak in the Sussex, N.B., region that broke out earlier this summer is now over, according to Public Health.

The organization officially declared the outbreak on July 14. The disease spread to 15 people and the last confirmed case was found on July 19.

“Although this outbreak has ended, it is a clear reminder of how quickly diseases like measles can arrive in our communities,” said Dr. Kimberley Barker, regional medical officer of health, in a news release. “Immunization remains our strongest defence against vaccine-preventable diseases like measles. I encourage all New Brunswickers to remain vigilant and up to date with their vaccinations.”...

Public Health confirms case of measles in the Moncton area
Visitors to the Moncton airport arrivals area, hospital emergency department among those potentially exposed

A case of measles has been confirmed in the Moncton area, New Brunswick Public Health said Friday.

Dr. Yves Léger, the chief medical officer of health, said the infected individual had travelled internationally and tested positive on their return. No other information about the individual was provided.

“Fortunately, this individual did seek care fairly quickly, so that helped to limit the number of potential exposures,” he said.

“It is certainly one of those infections that we are very concerned about in part due to its very contagious nature … that's always why we take any measles case very seriously, and we respond very aggressively.”

According to the health advisory, people who have travelled to the following areas were potentially exposed to the virus:

Passengers on Tuesday's 9 p.m. Air Canada flight 1986 from Toronto to Moncton

Those present at the Moncton airport arrivals area on Wednesday between 12:30 a.m. and 3:10 a.m.

People who visited the Moncton Hospital's emergency department on Wednesday between 6 a.m. and noon...
