The problems surrounding the national cricket team's One Day International (ODI) series in Bangladesh seemed to deepen yesterday when it was learnt that several utility players were down with a viral infection.
According to Cricket Kenya chairman, Samir Inamdar, almost half of the players are down with flu and may not be in good form for the remaining matches
"Other than captain Steve Tikolo, other players also affected by flu are Martin Suji, Jimmy Kamande, Thomas Odoyo, Hitesh Modi and Kalpesh Patel," he said.
He, however, said the players were undergoing treatment and expressed optimism that they would all be fit to play in the third match at Fatullah tomorrow.
The Kenyans are in Bangladesh for four ODI matches that are expected to end this Saturday, with the final clash to be played at Fatullah. Bangladesh is currently leading 2-0 in the series.
The tourists have a Herculian task to win the remaining two matches to join the top 10 teams in the International Cricket Council ODI ranking, so they can increase their chances of participating in the ICC Championship in India later this year.
Inamdar defended the players over the crushing nine-wicket loss they suffered in their second game on Monday and partly blamed the result on the weather and the pitch, saying the players gave their best in the given circumstances.
