In the Americas the disease annually produces 900 thousand and 1.2 million cases in 23 endemic countries.
As a measure to achieve a reduction of the disease, was instituted against Malaria Day in the Americas .
"Each November 8th marks the Malaria Day in the Region of the Americas to recognize past and current efforts to achieve a reduction in disease burden by 75 percent in 2015. This has been the opportunity to prevent, control and awareness and monitor the progress that has been taken against this disease in the region, "said Lenis Urquijo Enrique Velasquez, Director General of Public Health of the Ministry of Social Protection.
Malaria is caused by parasites of the genus Plasmodium that are transmitted to humans by the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes, known vectors of malaria, which bite mainly between dusk and dawn.
