MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) -- Six students in Candon city in the northern Philippines were confirmed today to be infected with A/H1N1 virus, local media reported.

Joy Villanueva, Candon city Assistant Health Officer, said there was no need to worry as the students were undergoing proper medication and bed rest in their respective communities.

The city health office is closely monitoring the persons who have direct contact with the victims to prevent the possible spread of the virus, she added.

City Health Officer Narciso Ramos advised local residents to undertake extra caution and vigilance to maintain good health, especially during the rainy season.

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan ? Health authorities here confirmed Friday that five students from different public and private educational institutions in the province are under close medical supervision for contracting the A(H1N1) virus.

Dagupan City Health Officer Leonard Carbonel disclosed that the A (H1N1) victims were all students residing in Barangay Lucao, Dagupan City.

?Those A (H1N1) victims are immediately recovered and are now attending their classes in school,? Carbonel said.

Health authorities confirmed through throat swab samples that the five students were infected with the deadly flu virus.

To ensure that the illness will not spread to their family members and relatives, health workers have already distributed prophylaxis antibiotics to the close contacts of the confirmed cases in order to strengthen their resistance against contracting the virus.

While the number of victims are considered to be minimal as compared with the 209 individuals suspected to have been contracted it, the Dagupan City Health Department said people must be forewarned that the rainy season likely brings with it a high susceptibility to the flu.

Residents are advised to eat the right kind of food in order to strengthen their resistance so that they will not immediately contract the rainy day diseases which could compromise their health condition in the coming days.

Children and elderly are particularly vulnerable to contracting the flu.

The city health office reminded individuals suffering from flu-like symptoms to immediately seek medical attention from the nearest health facility in their area so that they will be properly diagnosed

SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela ? The local health department revealed that eight pupils from a public elementary school have been infected with the A (H1N1) virus prompting them to raise the alarm signal over the expected increase of A (H1N1) cases, especially with the onset of the rainy season.

The positive test results of the eight pupils were relayed to the city health office by the Regional Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) which conducted laboratory analysis on the throat swab samples taken from the pupils who complained of having contracted flu-like symptoms.

With the expected spread of the disease to other pupils in the still undisclosed school, the city government facilitated the distribution of prophylaxis medicines to those who had close contact with the eight affected pupils in addition to undergoing close medical supervision over a 10-day confinement period.

Last July 21, twenty one pupils from the same school were rushed to the Southern Isabela General Hospital after they complained of suffering from flu. Health authorities subjected them to random swab tests to determine whether or not they have contracted the A (H1N1) virus.

Isabela is one of the provinces in the country which registered a significant growth in the number of A (H1N1) cases over the past several months, supposedly due to unpredictable weather conditions triggered by climate change.
