More schools in Pune report H1N1 flu cases

PUNE: Twelve educational institutions in the district reported fresh H1N1 flu cases on Monday, bringing the total number of cases in schools to more
than 25.
Joint director of the state health services Ashok Mehta said all these students are in a stable condition.
In recent days, 13 schools and a college in the district have reported H1N1 cases.
R R Pardeshi, deputy health official of the Pune Municipal Corporation, said the schools from where fresh cases were reported on Monday have seen an attendance of 75-80%. Among Monday?s positive cases was a four-year-old boy from Dnyan Ankur School at Chandannagar. Earlier, seven children from this school had been detected with flu-like symptoms. A seven-year-old from Delhi Public School and a standard VII student from Dhole Patil school also tested positive. Both have been quarantined at Naidu hospital.
The other positive cases were a 15-year-old student of St Francis School on the Pune-Nagar road, a six-year-old student from Prakash English school at Bhavani Peth, a tenth-standard student of Gholap school at Aundh, three students from D Y Patil college in Pimpri and a student each from VIT college and Sinhagad Springdale school. Earlier, six students from St Francis school had shown flu-like symptoms.
St Joseph?s girls? school at Khadki will remain closed for seven days after a seven-year-old student tested positive on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the district, two students from Urdu high school at Kamshet and a 16-year-old from Navnathnagar Vidyalaya at Kedgaon (Daund) tested positive.
Mehta said 18 patients are critical in Pune and PCMC hospitals. He said 20 people have tested positive, taking the total number of cases to 1,005.
