More H7N9 cases likely over holiday

Mainland health authorities warn that more H7N9 birdflu cases can be expected over the Lunar New Year holiday due to the increase in poultry consumption.

The warning comes as two more deaths from the disease were reported in Shanghai, involving a 31-year -old medical worker and a 77-year-old farmer.

Zhejiang province also reported six more cases on Sunday and Monday. All the six patients, aged from 53 to 71, are in critical or severe condition.

Human infections of H7N9 have also been reported in Jiangsu, Fujian and Guangdong provinces. A man in Guangdong died of H7N9 on Monday. ↓
