Bolivia has increased deaths from influenza A H1N1 virus

The number of deaths linked to cases of influenza A H1N1 in Bolivia rose in a week from 5 to 11, and grew over 150% the number of confirmed cases of people infected throughout the country, reported the Health Minister of this Andean country, Juan Carlos Calvimontes.
"In a week the deaths from influenza A H1N1 were up 5 to 11 in the country. Also has increased the number of infections: from 2,276 suspected cases have been confirmed there are 759, mainly in the city of La Paz concentrates more than 50% of cases, "the minister told the local press.
Calvimontes expressed concern about the proliferation of suspected and confirmed cases, he urged the public to take into account the preventive measures to prevent its spread.
The minister explained that 6 of the deaths linked to the virus occurred in La Paz and 5, in Santa Cruz, although he explained that the victims suffered from an underlying disease.
Of the total of confirmed cases of infection with, 517 are in La Paz, 68%, 158 Santa Cruz department, 20%, and 15 to Beni, 2% percent. In addition, 31 the department of Oruro, 4%, 27 to Cochabamba, 3%, 9 to Tarija, 1% and 1 to Potosi and Chuquisaca 1 (0.13%).
"We ask people not be alarmed, because the country has entered a critical stage, cases that are occurring are in patients who have an underlying disease, but the main thing is to follow these warnings," said the minister.
As of June 7 [2012] the Ministry of Health had reported 250 cases of infection, and the fourth week [junho/2012], the number rose to 759.
La Paz, Bolivia's seat of government, is the city with 68% of all cases of infections of H1N1 influenza viruses that occur in Bolivia, the Ministry of Health.
By the number of cases in the department of La Paz, the Departmental Health Service (SITES) declared a health alert in this department.
AH1N1 influenza, which began in 2009 in the world, entered Bolivia on 28 May of that year [2009]. This was the 19 country to report cases of this flu in the Americas.
In 2010 there were 13 deaths associated with this condition, but decreased the incidence of confirmed cases over 2009, the year in which over 2,500 were reported infected with influenza and 59 deaths in Bolivia.
While in 2011, the Ministry of Health registered 4 deaths in this type of virus and were 600 confirmed cases of a total of 1,600 suspected cases.
