KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Health officials in Missouri have confirmed a second case of swine flu.

The Kansas City Health Department said Saturday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta had confirmed that a 19-year-old Kansas City man hospitalized in Nebraska has the H1N1 virus.

Missouri now has two confirmed cases of swine flu and two more probable cases. The other confirmed case is a 30-year-old woman from Platte County in the Kansas City area who recently returned from Mexico.

The 19-year-old man in the latest confirmed case was hospitalized in the Omaha area after traveling to Nebraska for treatment for another health condition.


Earlier Saturday, Missouri health officials in Jefferson City released additional information about the two probable cases of swine flu, which were discovered Friday night.

Health officials said those patients are a father and son from Howard County in central Missouri, who recently traveled to Mexico.

State Health Director Margaret Donnelly said both have been told about their condition and received anti-viral medication. They have been advised to stay home for the next week and avoid contact with others.

Their cases, like others, were found during tests of specimens sent to the State Public Health Laboratory by doctors whose patients reported flu-like symptoms.

Swine flu has sickened about 766 people worldwide, with 443 in Mexico and about 184 in the U.S. There have been 16 confirmed swine flu deaths in Mexico and one confirmed in the U.S.
