Staph infection outbreak at Eureka High School causes concern

(KMOV)-- An outbreak of the dangerous staph infection has Eureka High School very concerned.
Six football players attending summer workout classes have been diagnosed with staph infections.
According to the high school spokesperson none of the cases are the MRSA infection which is highly resistant to antibiotics.
Staphlyococcus aureus infects the skin with what looks like a rash or boil which becomes painful, swollen and can have drainage. According to the St. Louis County Department of Health, staph is a very common disease that can affect anyone.
Eureka High School is taking measures to prevent the spreading of the staph virus including additional cleaning measures and posters which encourage good hygiene.
The school says frequent handwashing and good hygiene are the most effective ways to prevent the staph infection.
