SAINT CLAIR SHORES, Mich. -- A St. Clair Shores priest is on life support as he battles complications from the H1N1 virus.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church said the Rev. Gerry Bernier was recently admitted to a hospital for double pneumonia.

"He is in ICU and on life-support in an effort to allow his body to heal.

While he is not allowed visitors at this time, he certainly needs our prayers," a statement on the church's Web site reads.

A Web site has been created for the church to update the community on Bernier's condition.

It can be found at www.caringbridge.org/visit/frgerrybernier.

My Story

November 23, 2009:

Fr. Gerry continues to be on life support. He is in critical but stable condition as he deals with complicatio<WBR>ns from double pneumonia and the H1N1 flu.

Given his condition and the fact he is fully sedated in ICU, visitors have been limited to his immediate family and the SJA Pastoral Staff.

I will continue to update this site through the journal entries below. If you wish to receive an email as updates are made, please check the box below.

Fr. Gerry loves praying the rosary. Please consider praying one for him.

Fr. Solanus Casey & Padre Pio pray for him!

In Christ,

Msgr. Mike
