KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An outbreak of respiratory infections in dogs has veterinarians sounding the alarm.

The virus is extremely contagious, and pets all over Kalamazoo County have been infected...

...Lakeview Animal Hospital Veterinarian Dr. Darrell Greathouse says he's seen 50-60 cases of the illness since mid-July.

"What we've been seeing is this coughing gag, sometimes people even think they're vomiting and they're just bringing up white phlegm," he explained. "But it's actually a cough from a bronchial infection."

Dr. Greathouse says the popularity of doggie day cares and dog parks creates more opportunities for infections to spread...
