LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Michigan's first human case of West Nile Virus has been detected in Livingston County.

According to officials with the Livingston County Health Department, a resident became ill after contracting the virus, which is commonly carried by mosquitoes.

"It’s likely they contracted it when they were traveling out of state," LCHD Health Promotion Coordinator Courtney Rynkiewicz told The Daily. "We can’t pin down 100% where they contracted it."

The resident became sick in June, and "is still receiving supportive medical care," Rynkiewicz said.

It's the first and only human case of West Nile detected in Michigan this year, according to the Department of Health and Human Service's most recent report, which was updated Friday, July 26...​

Genesee County confirms third human case of West Nile virus

(CBS DETROIT) - Health officials in a Southeast Michigan county are alerting residents to be cautious about mosquito bites after they confirmed a third human case of West Nile virus.

The cases were spread across different areas of the county, according to a release from the Genesee County Health Department.​..

...As of Sept. 13, the state of Michigan reports that 14 residents have tested positive for West Nile virus, and two have tested positive for Jamestown Canyon virus.
