Whooping cough cases increase in Mexico: 696 confirmed cases and 37 deaths by April 2025.

Although the prevalence of whooping cough decreased significantly between 2016 and 2022, recent years have shown an increase in cases. In 2023, 188 cases were confirmed, with an incidence of 0.14 cases per 100,000 population. By 2024, the number increased to 463 cases, with an incidence of 0.34 per 100,000 population.
Globally, the Americas experienced the highest peak of pertussis in 2012, with 72,328 reported cases. Since then, cases have shown an annual decline, reaching their lowest level in 2022 with 3,283 cases.
