[TD]As part of the actions implemented in the area around the outbreak in the state of Chiapas, several backyards adjacent to the first outbreak detected were identified, visited and sampled by official staff; two of them were affected by mortality. The samples obtained were sent to the SENASICA molecular biology laboratory in Tabasco for diagnosis and the results were positive; definitive quarantines were established and a ban on the entry and exit of birds was applied. Finally, birds and items at risk were destroyed and disposed of and the facilities were cleaned and disinfected. In the states of Guanajuato and Jalisco, no further outbreaks were detected. Epidemiological surveillance has been strengthened at the national level.[/TD]

[TD]The owner reported mortality in birds with clinical signs suggesting Newcastle disease; the problem originated in a backyard premises in the municipality of San Luis Rio Colorado, in the State of Sonora. A total definitive quarantine was imposed to inactivate the outbreak; all infected and contact birds should be culled humanely and disposed of by burial; cleaning, washing and disinfection of the premises should be carried out. Epidemiological surveillance has been carried out on premises located in the 10-km zone around the outbreak in order to detect secondary outbreaks in a timely manner. Poultry farmers in the zone have been advised to immediately notify the official veterinarians of high mortality in birds and to apply vaccination on their premises, the vaccine being freely available on the market. It is also recommended to avoid movements of birds in the zone and not to introduce in their flocks birds that constitute a risk. It should be noted that since the surveillance was launched the presence of this disease has not been recorded in this State in the last 20 years and that this event does not involve commercial poultry farms.[/TD]

[TD]The outbreak occurred in a backyard in San Luis Rio Colorado (State of Sonora) within the 10 km zone around the index outbreak. A total definitive quarantine was applied, all infected and contact birds were disposed of through humane slaughter and burial, and cleaning, washing and disinfection of the premises were carried out. In the first two outbreaks reported in that municipality, control measures have been completed. ICPI results were 1.75, 1.96 and 1.56 for the outbreaks reported. Poultry farmers in the zone have been urged to immediately notify the official veterinary staff of the presence of high mortality rates in birds and to apply vaccination on their premises, the vaccine being available in the market. It is also recommended to avoid the movement of birds in the zone and not to introduce in their flocks birds that constitute a risk.[/TD]

[TD]A farm with high mortality has been identified in the municipality of Zapopan (Jalisco), where virus isolation has been carried out. A definitive quarantine has been established. All infected and contact birds were disposed of; carcasses, products and waste were disposed of, and the facilities were cleaned and disinfected. It was recommended that poultry farmers in the region immediately inform the official veterinary staff in case of high bird mortality and apply on their premises the vaccine, which is available over-the-counter on the market. It is also recommended to avoid any movement of birds in the area and not to introduce into flocks birds that pose a risk.[/TD]
