03 of March 2010, 00:49Mexico, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Health in Mexico confirmed the detection in the country of a genetic mutation in human influenza virus A (H1N1), which confers resistance to the antiviral oseltamivir (Tamiflu).
The change appeared in the position of H274Y in neuraminidase gene (NA) of influenza virus A (H1N1) and one patient was found in 10 month old baby, who survived the disease, detailing the ministry statement said.
According to the agency, the mother of the little spoke by telephone to the daughter is well, with mild cough and runny nose alone.
Laboratory tests were conducted by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference by PCR in real time, says the official note.
Originally from the municipality of Ecatepec, State of Mexico, the baby was admitted on January 4 Pediatric Hospital La Villa, for mild respiratory distress syndrome, malnutrition grade one and bronchiolitis, the ministry said.
She was discharged after showing satisfactory progress without complications, but 10 days later he returned to the Hospital Infantil de Mexico "Federico Gomez" diagnosed with severe pneumonia, malnutrition of moderate intensity and influenza-like illness.
He then transferred to Children's Hospital La Villa, where he was discharged on Feb. 3.
The discovery of the mutation, said Health, does not change the treatment policy in the future, it is the only resistant strain found between 420 sequenced.
