Mexico City: DEMONSTRATION ALERT: PROTESTS IN MEXICO CITY ON MAY 30 AND JUNE 1

Location: U.S. Embassy in Polanco and downtown Mexico City near the Zocalo.

Event: On Saturday, May 30, from 11:00 to 15:00, an “anti-imperialist cultural day” protest will be held by the Frente Memero Suberviso (Subversive Meme-ing Front) outside the U.S. Embassy in Polanco. On Monday, June 1, the CNE (Mexican teachers’ union) is holding a large demonstration in the downtown area and along major thoroughfares leading to the Zocalo, which is expected to result in significant road closures and traffic delays.

Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid the protests and exercise caution with large gatherings or demonstrations.

  • Demonstrations can be unpredictable; avoid areas around protests and demonstrations.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Follow the directions of local authorities and in case of emergency, call 911.
