The State of Maryland has been formally preparing for a pandemic influenza outbreak since February of 1999 when the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) received a grant from the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention. Since that time, DHMH has partnered with other state agencies to develop a Maryland Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan.
