Man Dies of Suspected Influenza A

A South Korean man in his 70s presumed to have been infected with influenza A (H1N1) died Monday, according to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs.
The victim was a male aged 78 and was also suffering from prostatic cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes before he died.
Health officials said he tested positive for the H1N1 virus, but the result of a second test hours later was negative.
The hospital did the second test because it has previously seen several cases where patients, who were not infected with the virus, test positive in initial tests.
``We cannot confirm if the man was infected with the type-A influenza virus,'' an official said, adding the health authorities will investigate the case thoroughly.
As of Monday, 6,184 people hace been infected with H1N1.
If the man proves to have been infected with the influenza A virus, he will become the fifth South Korean fatality of the highly infectious disease, according to the official.
Earlier, health officials projected that in the worst case scenario the death toll from influenza A could reach 20,000 here.
