diplomatic Morocco20 minutes ago
Malaysia recorded 3,181 cases of dengue fever in the first week of 2024, the director general of the country's Ministry of Health, Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, revealed on Saturday.
This figure represents a marked increase compared to the 2,219 cases of this viral infection recorded during the same period last year, he noted in a press release. The central state of Selangor recorded the highest number of dengue infection hotspots, with 100 locations, followed by the states of Putrajaya (14) and Perak (7), the statement said.
In 2023, Malaysia recorded 123,133 cases of dengue fever, a significant increase of 86.3% from the 66,102 cases recorded in 2022, according to the Ministry of Health. Like malaria, from which it differs in treatment, dengue fever is an epidemic viral infectious disease transmitted to humans by a mosquito. It manifests itself by headaches, muscle and joint pain, as well as skin inflammation.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately half of the world's population is at risk of dengue fever. No specific treatment for this disease exists at the moment.
