Strange flea outbreak in Phalombe

Barely a week after rabies reportedly killed four people in a space of five days another strange flea outbreak has hit the southern Malawi district of Phalombe causing panic among the locals.

Hundreds of people from about 30 villages have been affected by the unprecedented outbreak of the strange flea, believed to have journeyed from neighbouring Mozambique.

The strange flea outbreak was first discovered in the underdeveloped district some three weeks ago in some 11 villages of Traditional Authority Nkhulambe, according to health authorities.

The office further alarmed residents when it announced that during the month of June alone it recorded about 548 cases of rabies, one of the worst ever. ?(Reporting by Lucky Mkandawire)
