Kittery, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Officials at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard are confirming a fire aboard a nuclear submarine at the yard.

The fire broke out at 5:41 Wednesday evening aboard the USS Miami. The fire was reported near the forward compartment of the ship. Naval officials stress that the ship's nuclear reactor was NOT operating at the time the fire broke out and has not been affected by the fire....

No weapons are on board, just the reactor which does not operate in dry dock and is in the middle of the sub, with the fire having started in the front.

KITTERY, Maine ? A fire that caused an estimated $400 million in damage to the USS Miami started in a vacuum cleaner, according to preliminary findings of the U.S. Navy.
