?Malnutrition claims 63 kids in Mum region?

MUMBAI: Death due to malnutrition has become a grim reality in remote areas of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

"The state has witnessed deaths of over 200 children in remote villages of Jawhar and Mokhada in Thane district and Melghat in Amravati within a span of just five months," said women and child welfare minister Varsha Gaikwad on the floor of the state assembly.
While 63 deaths occurred in Jawhar and Mokhada talukas in Thane district, 146 kids reportedly died in the Melghat forest area of Amravati district.
In her written reply during question hour Gaikwad said these children had mostly died between October 2013 and Feburary 2014 due to serious ailments such as pneumonia, high fever, malaria, pre-matured births, jaundice, asthma, dengue, cerebral fever etc and were not due to malnutrition.
