Against the resurgence of poliomyelitis, Madagascar launches a response through a national vaccination campaign

Madagascar is facing a resurgence of epidemic outbreaks linked to vaccine-derived poliovirus (VDPV1) circulating since September 2020 and which has already made a total of 115 positive isolates from all forms of surveillance combined (20 Paralysis acute flaccid (AFP), 13 contacts, 20 community children and 62 environmental samples) in 21 districts spread over 8 regions. In 2021, two local vaccination days were organized in June and August in 85 high-risk districts with vaccination coverage of 96% and 98% respectively.
