First case of West Nile fever recorded in Macedonia

The first case of West Nile fever this year has been confirmed in Macedonia, while health authorities warn that with rising temperatures and increased mosquito activity, new cases are possible in the coming period.

The Institute of Public Health announced that it is a 55-year-old man from Veles, in whom the disease began with high fever, skin rash, severe fatigue and impaired consciousness. Due to the deterioration of the condition, the patient was hospitalized at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, where laboratory tests confirmed the West Nile virus.

"The patient is currently in improved condition and is under continuous medical supervision," the IHP announced.

Epidemiological analyses have shown that the person had not traveled abroad and had not had contact with other people with similar symptoms.​..
