Fourth case of dengue fever recorded
Monday, 31 August 2009
One imported case of dengue fever was detected yesterday; taking the number of affected people to four said the Health Bureau (SSM).
The dengue fever case was a 29 year old man who flew from Vietnam to Macau on August 19 and developed symptoms of fever and headache on August 20. He went to Kiang Wu Hospital on August 24 after a skin rash appeared.
On August 27, tests on the dengue fever anti-body returned a positive result. Based on travel and symptom development time, the case caused concern.
The SSM has advised people to take prevention measures immediately and clean up any stagnant water at home or in the office, apply mosquito repellent, and wear long-sleeves when travelling to dengue fever affected areas.
In addition, the Public Health Laboratory of the SSM provides tests to all medical institutions for free.
