Macao's public Sao Januario Hospital Center has recorded two new particularly worrying A/ H1N1 flu cases since the Lunar New Year, the Macao Post Daily reported on Friday.

The newspaper quoted an announcement from the city's Health Bureau as saying that a 38-year old man from Hong Kong was in " critical" condition days after he was confirmed to have contracted A/H1N1 flu.

According to the announcement, the man arrived in Macao to visit an uncle last Saturday, shortly after which he came down with fever, cough and breathing difficulties. The mechanically ventilated patient suffers from pneumonia.

Meanwhile, a 65-year old local man, who suffers from a chronic lung disease, was confirmed by the Bureau as in "serious" condition. He has also been diagnosed with pneumonia.

As more and more students are expected to be back in school after winter vacation, the Health Bureau has stepped up efforts to watch closely the flu situation in schools.
