  • The notifiable avian influenza (NAI) viral infection was detected on a native chicken breeder farm during active surveillance and identified as H5N2 strain on 21 March 2011.
  • An intensified surveillance in accordance with Chapter on avian influenza of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code was carried out during a three-month period after the low pathogenic notifiable avian influenza (LPNAI) was confirmed.
  • Clinical and epidemiological investigation of surrounding farms within a 3-km-radius of the index farm has finished since March 2011 (a total of 97 farms).
  • Only two duck breeder farms were identified as H7N3 strain on 7 April and 20 May 2011, the other farms were all negative for avian influenza virus isolation results.
  • There has been no new case of NAI since the outbreak of LPNAI detected on 20 May 2011.
  • Intensified and active surveillance performed on poultry farms surrounding the infected farm and in the whole territory has both shown no other outbreak of NAI.
  • According to the aforementioned information and to the Article 10.4.3. of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2011), Chinese Taipei declares that the H5N2 low pathogenic notifiable avian influenza outbreak is resolved and that, therefore, it regains its notifiable avian influenza free status as from 27 August 2011.
  • Note by the OIE Animal Health Information Department: H5 and H7 avian influenza in its low pathogenic form in poultry is a notifiable disease as per Chapter 10.4. on avian influenza of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2011).
