The U.S. Coast Guard today is investigating two reports of oil in Barataria Bay, including one near Bay Jimmy that was reported by officials with a shoreline assessment team for the joint federal and BP cleanup of oil from last year?s BP Deepwater Horizon spill.
In a report filed at 3:43 p.m. Monday with the National Response Center, which tracks oil and other pollution incidents, team members said they saw ?a brown oil against several hundred yards of marsh and a rainbow sheen on the water? on a patch of wetlands sandwiched between Wilkinson Bayou and Bay Jimmy.
A spokesman for the oil spill Joint Information Center confirmed that the group's assessment team reported the oil.
